When it comes to protecting your livelihood, the right building materials make all the difference. Whether you’re constructing a new pole shed, retrofitting a barn, or adding a liner to your livestock facility, agricultural buildings demand roofing and siding that are durable, low-maintenance, and cost-effective.
That’s why farmers across Western Canada are turning to metal, and why VersaFrame has become a trusted name in agricultural metal roofing and siding since 2005.
With customizable profiles, expert guidance, and manufacturing rooted in the Prairies, we understand the demands of agricultural operations and provide products built to perform.
Why Choose Metal for Your Farm?
Agricultural buildings are constantly exposed to harsh weather, dirt, moisture, and wear. Metal roofing and siding provide several key benefits that make them well suited for rural and farm structures:
- Weather resistance in wind, hail, and heavy snow
- Long lifespan with minimal maintenance
- Pest resistance, unlike wood siding
- Fast installation and reduced labor costs
- Environmentally responsible and recyclable
- Lower total cost of ownership over time
VersaFrame offers tailored options to match the needs of different building types, site conditions, and budgets.
Common Agricultural Applications
VersaFrame supplies metal roofing and siding for a wide range of agricultural structures, including:
- Pole sheds and machine storage buildings
- Grain and hay sheds
- Workshops and barns
- Quonset-style storage buildings
- Animal confinement facilities such as hog, poultry, or dairy barns
- Interior liners for wash bays, utility rooms, and more
Every project is different. That’s why our team is available to recommend the right profile, gauge, substrate, and accessories to fit your specific needs.
Choosing the Right Profile
VersaFrame offers multiple panel profiles suited for different agricultural uses:
9-36 Panel
This is the most commonly used panel for pole sheds, barns, and interior liner applications. It’s durable, economical, and easy to install.
Low Rib Panel
Ideal for Quonset-style buildings or structures with curved framing.
Mesa Panel
Frequently used for interior liners, this panel provides a clean and finished appearance that’s easy to maintain.
Board and Batten Panel
Designed for exterior walls, this profile mimics the traditional plank style while offering the durability of steel.
Gauge Options: Matching Thickness to Purpose
Steel gauge refers to material thickness. Lower numbers indicate thicker steel, which increases durability and structural performance.
29 Gauge Hi-Tensile Steel
This is the standard choice for most agricultural projects including sheds and barns. It offers a strong balance between cost, weight, and strength.
26 Gauge Galvanized Steel (G90)
Recommended for animal confinement buildings. The heavier coating resists corrosion from moisture and off-gassing common in these environments.
24 Gauge Steel
The thickest standard option, used in buildings requiring extra durability. Less common for general ag applications.
Choosing the Right Substrate
The steel substrate is just as important as the thickness. VersaFrame offers two main options depending on the environment where the panels will be installed:
ASTM A792 Zinc-Aluminum Coated Steel
The standard substrate for most agricultural projects. Its coating protects against rust in typical outdoor conditions and extends product lifespan.
ASTM A653 Galvanized G90 Steel
Recommended for barns and livestock facilities where corrosive gases like ammonia are present. G90 galvanized steel performs better in these environments, helping prevent premature deterioration.
Accessories That Complete the System
A high-performing building requires more than just quality panels. VersaFrame offers a full suite of accessories to ensure a weather-tight, long-lasting system:
- Trim — Standard and custom options to match all panel profiles
- Interior Liners — Commonly 9-36 or Mesa steel panels; also available in PVC or hidden fastener plastic options
- Fasteners — #10 or #14 metal-to-wood screws with colour-matching heads
- Closures — Foam closures, both standard and vented, to seal gaps and prevent infiltration
- Sealants, vents, underlayments, and more — Available through our accessory section or local branches
Our one-stop-shop model ensures that you get everything needed to complete your agricultural project in one place.
Colour and Paint Options
Metal siding doesn’t have to mean plain. VersaFrame offers over 30 standard colours in a durable Silicone Modified Polyester (SMP) finish, designed specifically for the agricultural sector.
This paint system is known for:
- Long-lasting colour retention
- UV resistance to prevent fading
- Budget-conscious performance
- Availability in smooth and textured finishes
Choose a tone that blends with your environment or makes a bold statement. Either way, you can count on coatings that last.
